The thirty day cover sheet: a grid of thirty numbered squares to cut out, in scattered order.
The thirty day sheet. The numbers are scattered on purpose.

Why the numbers are out of order

Most printable trackers are a grid you fill in from the top left, which uncovers a picture the way a blind goes up. This one is scattered, so day three might be in the middle and day four at the edge, and the photograph comes through from everywhere at once. It looks like nothing for the first week and then arrives all at the same time, which is roughly how the thing you are actually doing feels.

There is no streak on it

Deliberately. A streak counter turns one missed day into a reason to stop, because the number you were proud of goes to zero and the twenty days you did are gone from the page. Here a missed day means one square stays where it is. Everything you have already cut out is still cut out, and there is nowhere on the sheet to record a failure.

If your week has days off in it by design, five at the gym and two not, those are rest days, and they do not count as misses. Leave those squares and carry on.

What is on the three pages

  • Instructions, including what makes a photograph worth putting behind it.
  • Thirty days, as thirty squares around a 5 by 7 inch window.
  • Seven days, the same idea in seven larger pieces, for something you want to try before committing a month to it.

If you would rather not use scissors

The app does the same thing on a phone, a computer and a watch: your own photo, covered, uncovering one piece per check-in, with the same rule about missed days. It is free on Apple, Android and Windows, or you can try it here without installing anything.

Using it with other people

It is free to reproduce, including for a class, a team or a group challenge, and you do not need to ask. If you write about it, a link back to this page is welcome and is the only thing asked for.
