An Atoms app alternative built around a photo of your goal

Atoms is the official app for Atomic Habits, the best-selling book by James Clear. It turns the book’s four laws into a habit tracker: make it obvious, make it attractive, make it easy, make it satisfying. It holds 4.8 stars from 10,697 ratings on the US App Store.

If you have read the book, Atoms is the natural first app to try. People look for an Atoms alternative when they want their goal on a Mac or a Windows PC, or when a list of habits and a daily lesson are more than they need. Details below were checked on the US App Store, Google Play and the Atoms website on 28 September 2026.

What Atoms does well

  • Identity-based habits. You start small and build habits around the kind of person you want to become, with guidance on the right size to start and a time and place to commit to.
  • Daily lessons from James Clear, short reads inside the app.
  • Reminders that fit you: one at the exact time of a habit, or a few across the day.
  • Progress insights, plus an Apple Watch app for logging on the move.

What Atoms costs today

Atoms is free to download. The US App Store lists Atoms Pro at $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year, and Google Play lists in-app purchases from $4.99 to $39.99.

Where Atoms runs

Atoms runs on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, on Android, and as a web app in the browser. It has no Mac or Windows app. The Android version has passed 100,000 downloads on Google Play, with 3.1 stars from 671 reviews.

How Reveal the Dream is different

Reveal the Dream is built around one goal. You pick a photo of it, choose a journey of 7 or 30 days, and the photo starts covered in one piece per day. Each check-in uncovers a piece, so your progress is the picture itself.

Miss a day and that piece stays covered. Every piece you already earned stays uncovered, and the next day carries on as normal. The missed day stays visible as a small covered patch in the finished picture, an honest record that costs you one piece and nothing more. I wrote about the reasoning in habit tracker without streaks.

There are no lessons to read and no list to manage. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Android, Wear OS and Windows, with a widget that keeps the photo on your home screen or desktop.

The book describes each habit as a vote for the person you want to become. A photo of what that person is working toward is a simple thing to keep in front of you while you cast those votes, so the two sit well side by side.

When to pick which

Stay with Atoms if you want the book’s system in an app, you like a short daily lesson, and you track several habits.

Try Reveal the Dream if one goal matters most, if you want it on a Mac or a Windows PC, or if a picture keeps you going better than a checklist. The free version has no time limit.
